Bristol Press details American Dream
Book recounts RV journey across America
Wednesday, May 6, 2009 10:30 PM EDT
By JOHN FITTS
Staff writer
Many Americans dream of taking the great American road trip once the children are out of the house and the career is finally finished.
Glenn Maynard, however, decided to take the opposite approach.
“The common thought is to wait to retire and go RVing,” the Wethersfield resident said.
Maynard and his ex-wife, Tracy (whose maiden name is Wishneski), however decided — “before the mortgage and the kids — let’s get that out of the way first.”
So in 1992, a week after their wedding, the two took off in a renovated 1978 Dodge Rockwood and spent a year on the road, visiting the 48 contiguous states and parts of Mexico and Canada.
Now Maynard’s experiences from that trip, which were originally written out on legal pads, have recently been published by Strategic Book Publishing under the name “Strapped into an American Dream.”
The trip consisted of 35,000 miles worth of amazing experiences as they traveled everywhere from the grandest of national parks in southern Utah to a Wyoming town with a population of six that urged visitors to “drive at a reasonable speed.”
Along the way they were shaken by earthquakes, saw twisters in Illinois, were nearly toppled by the wind on the Colorado plains (after finally leaving Kansas) and drove miles through the woods to reach a free campground in Maine where they met a man with a dog named Molly — the same as their Miniature Schnauzer.
Although they saved the money from their wedding and were fortunate that their cars sold when they were on the road, the couple were forced to work for a time in an Arizona factory after nearly running out of cash.
The two also met an amazing cast of characters including gypsies and people who had UFO and Bigfoot stories.
“Small town America was unbelievable,” Maynard said.
At the time of the trip, Maynard recounted some of those experiences by sending accounts along the way to local newspapers, including the Glastonbury Citizen and Bristol Press.
Maynard, who has a bachelor of arts degree in English from the University of Connecticut, grew up in Glastonbury but Colorado proved so alluring the couple lived in the Denver area for four years. After his divorce, Maynard moved back to Connecticut and has been in Wethersfield since 2001.
He said that after the trip, he typed his stories into a word processor and the book was essentially finished before he moved back to Connecticut. After the divorce, he rewrote the book slightly, taking out some of the honeymoon language but he said the book is 100 percent factual.
Along the way he had to retype it again into a computer and then came the long process of trying to sell it. He said he nearly gave up but Strategic took on the project and published the book in February. Maynard said he hopes to get the title into local stores — which is proving more difficult than he expected. For now it is available online through sites such as Amazon.com.
It can also be found at http://www.strategicbookpublishing.com/StrappedIntoAnAmericanDream.html
Some excerpts and other material can be found at http://www.squidoo.com/glen-maynard-the-american-dream.
Maynard is also finishing a work of fiction. While he hopes to eventually write full-time, he is enjoying his job as a business analyst for United Healthcare.
“If it happens, it happens,” he said.

Melbourne online shops we like
The world wide web is huge. Sometimes too huge for its own good. Many great ideas begin, are given life, then slowly wither as they are lost in the rush that is online life.
To help counter the trend, in my travels I have found a huge number of sites. Several in particular stand out and I will tell you why. Its the people. People and intentions make all the difference. Not people trying to conquer the world, but people doing the best they can for their kids and their community. And these people make up the fabric of the world. And I support them.
So yes, some of these sites have businesses attached to them. No shame in making an honest living. One is basically a charity site adn the other is a nice family helping to build a more peaceful world, in the words of the late General Choi Hong Hi.
So here we go.
Mr Bins is a Melboune rubbish bin hire company.
Il Shim TKD is a great family run martial arts school in Melbourne, Australia.
Genies has the best Latin American food and catering in the Dandenongs, and a great open fire. Go there on Psychic night at your own peril.
And then Squidoo. Great charity community and loads of fun. Hit the links for a visit!

Immediate Bridal Traffic with a Simple Squidoo Lens.
As we have discussed before, Squidoo is a very powerful tool when it comes to search engine optimization. If you create a Squidoo lens, it gains immediate recognition in the search engine rankings, so it brings a great deal of traffic to your website if optimized properly. Also, it provides a quality backlinks to your main website. Many people do not even have a website and use Squidoo to generate a full-time income. In the wedding industry, this is not recommended, but it is definitely a great way to give your traffic and conversions to your website a major boost.

Let’s go over some of the benefits of creating a Squidoo lens. First of all, a lens is indexed by Google faster than a regular website you create. Many times they are indexed immediately upon creation. Also, Squidoo is a simple and free way to get a presence on the internet. Even if you are not experienced at all on the internet you can have a lens up in under an hour. Many people that are new to advertising on the internet are on a limited budget, so this is very helpful. When you compare Squidoo to its competitors, such as HubPages and WordPress, there is little regulation on your site. Squidoo has no problem with you putting affiliate links on your website. This does not mean to create a really spammy Squidoo that is packed with no information, but has affiliate links all over it. If you do this, there is a small possibility your lens can be taken down. Not only that, your page will not rank well in the search engines if there is no quality content enriched with keywords, and your site is just filled with hoplinks to affiliate products.
When you begin to make your lens, after you log in and click create lens, you will be taken to a screen that asks you what kind of lens you want to make. Click on the options that says “do my own thing.” This gives you freedom to add whatever modules you want to your lens. After this, you will be asked to select a title. You need to use your keyword in your title. If it makes sense, you can simply use the keyword as your title. If the title is taken you can simply add a number to the end of the title and it will not affect your search engine rankings. For instance, you could make your title “Top 10 Wedding Favors 1.” This will make your url http://www.squidoo.com/top-10-wedding-favors-1. If you are having trouble selecting a keyword, feel free to consult my previous blog post about selecting keywords.

Before you make your lens, it is a good idea to check out the Top 100 lenses. By doing this you will get a good idea of what it takes to create a high-quality lens that enjoys a great deal of traffic. No need to try to figure this out yourself, when the blueprint has been drawn for you by the top Squidoo marketers.
Squidoo will ask you if you want to keep the money you earn from your lens or donate it to charity. This is only referring to the Adsense earnings from your page. Adsense is the text ads placed on your website by Google. You will probably not generate much revenue from this, because this is not our main objective, so choose whichever option you like.
After this, you need to create a bio for yourself which includes a link to your main website. A link will be on each Squidoo you create that takes people to your bio, so put a little bit of time into it, because it will getting a good amount of views. You can make this bio default for each lens or create a special bio for each lens. If you have the time, I recommend creating a unique bio for each lens.
The first thing you create in the lens is the introduction. This is the most important part of your lens. This is where you need to capture the attention of your reader. This module is what gets your reader to continue. For this part you can write a short review of your product or service, or you can tell a story to gain interest. When you create your lens, make sure to use 4-5 modules. You want to include a lot of text. Also, add a module that contains something humorous or entertaining. You can use articles you have already written or other people’s articles from ezine. Just make sure to credit the author.
After this, you can take it from there. Use all of the seo techniques you have read previously in the blog and you can create a top Squidoo lens.

Strapped into an American Dream on Squidoo
Strapped into an American Dream by Glenn Maynard, Published by Strategic Book Publishing, NY, New York
Strapped into an American Dream captures America, whirling readers along a 35,000-mile trek through the 48 contiguous states in a rebuilt RV. Glenn Maynard brings this journey to all armchair travelers who will love the adrenaline rush. One week after their wedding, Glenn and his wife quit their jobs, sold their cars, and set out to find America. This book details how they were able to realize this dream, and then introduces the reader to the unique people they met and the places they visited along the path. Travel with them through 23 National Parks, Las Vegas, Mardi Gras, and dusty ghost towns. Feel the rushing wind of tornadoes and the rocking of an earthquake. Sleep on roadsides and in truck stops, shifting from state to state, risking danger in favor of a limited bank account. It is the dream of many Americans, in all walks of life, to travel the country, but few realize this dream. Now they may do so vicariously in the reading of these adventures. Laugh along the way. Share the terror, sorrow, and humor — strapped into an American dream.

SEO Network examples
So I have gotten some feedback from people asking for examples of SEO networks created in social “sharing” type sites. I have included some examples for you to observe, all targeting themes in the wedding related category.
Check out some of these site to see how you can leverage the “authority” of these social media sites to your domain for SEO purposes by creating great content and other forms of media.
Notice these pages target a seasonal theme (”fall weddings”) for maximum relevancy. Start creating these types of sites for your market niche. Use Squidoo, Google Knol, HubPages, Google Notebook, and Zimbio to get started!

My Six Pack Journey – Day 11
Week 2 – Day 11 – October 2, 2008
Its been quite a backlog. Let me update you on my antics.
Thursday was a below average day – was out the entire day – on my wedding shopping. I am getting married in January and yes, that is one of the motivations to get fit as well.
Had a good breakfast. Lunch got delayed though and dinner was just a sandwich – a low cal day almost.
I was at Gloria Jeans Cafe for Lunch and had a Chicken Sandwich and a Cocoa Cold Coffee. Yup did give in the coffee stuff there – but come on folks – can’t be perfect all the time.
Managed to catch a movie at a local theatre in the evening. Stayed away from the popcorn and colas there. That was the only saving grace. Went back home and continued reading on Small is the new big. Its been an amazing journey. The sheer number of ideas and thoughts addressed in the book make it a total don’t put me down kind of book.
To come to think of it. I wasn’t looking for this book. I went looking for Seth Godin’s other book – The Dip. The Dip – is a book about when to quit and when not to. It is about that juncture in life, when there is a lull after initial sucess and you are unsure whether to invest more time and go the whole way or quit and do something better. I feel i am at similar crossroads in my career and i wanted to read about it. However sinceThe Dip
wasn’t available in my local bookstore, had to settle for this one.
Life has its own amazing coincidences. This was one and it introduced me to this lovely book.My friends always ask me how i keep discovering new authors and new books. My answer to them is Keep Reading.
Robin Sharma led me to Squidoo.com
I’ve built a few lenses on squidoo and i am totally addiction. You can build your own lens on any topic your desire.
Squidoo was founded by Seth Godin. That’s how i came to know about him. Once i started reading on him – i learnt about The Dip.
One thing just leads to another. Just let your life flow, keep your eyes and ears open and just let go!
I only hope I don’t spend all my workout time on reading. Havent got a workout for a while now. Hope to get one soon.
I’m in for serious trouble, since i had to attend back to back dinner parties on Friday and Saturday. Look out for my next posts and how i navigated these days.
Cheers!

Summer’s Over!
Well! I’m mostly healed. Just a twinge in the left knee from time to time. Must have been my very busy summer. We did a fair bit of walking which could only help right?
We went to the Yukon, via Edmonton where we spent a few days visiting, and took lots of great pictures. Then, after we got back, spent time in Winnipeg at Folklorama, attended a wedding here in Neepawa and finally took a trip up to Hecla Island Resort.
I’m back to work now. I’ve been mulling over what to do with this blog and I’ve decided to use it to keep you up to date with what I’m doing and to act as a hub for many interests. For instance, Andy has his very own Squidoo page. The link is to the right. Other links there are for the websites and pages of the people who inspire me and keep me working away.
If there is something that you would like to suggest please do, and I appreciate any feedback.
Lately I have been exploring the world of Internet Marketing and there are many resource links here that may assist if you are considering getting into that. I am NOT an expert, but I can steer you to some really great folks, who are.
That’s it for now. Watch for my Squidoo page, coming soon. Oh! and I’ll be uploading my own photo’s to Flickr soon. Watch for them.
